Recently William E.
Kennard out going Chairman of the Federal Communication Commission
held a ..Press Conference.. announcing the approval of America On
Line and Time Warner merger. The merger was illustrated
as “a marriage of old media and new media”. However the major
focus of the Commission is to protect you the consumer from being
dominated by one company in the market place. Commissioner
Kennard went on to say “I took a hard , careful look at this merger
to make sure that this historic marriage would benefit consumers.
I balanced the need to protect the public from the danger that any
one company will be able to dominate the marketplace against the
need to guard against intrusive regulation that could stifle investment
